The X-ray problem revisited

In this letter we re-visit the X-ray problem. Assuming point interaction between the conduction electrons and the instantaneously created core-hole, the latter’s Green’s function can be represented as a Fredholm determinant of certain Wiener-Hopf operators acting on L2(0, T ) with discontinuous symbols. Here the symbols are the local conduction electron Green’s function in the frequency domain ...

QUICKSELECT Revisited

We give an overview of the running time analysis of the random divide-and-conquer algorithm FIND or QUICKSELECT. The results concern moments, distribution of FIND’s running time, the limiting distribution, a stochastic bound and the key: a stochastic fixed point equation.

Asymptotic Formula for (1 + 1/x)x, Revisited

In a recent note [1] appearing in this Monthly, Chen and Choi calculated a j in 1 + 1 x x = e ∞ j=0 a j x j (1) We offer a briefer calculation of these same coefficients. Applying the change of variables y = 1 x , and the two functions f (y) = e y , g(y) = ln(1+y) y , we rewrite (1) as f (g(y)) = ∞ j=0 (ea j)y j We take derivatives of this formal power series j times, and substitute y = 0, to g...

Coordination and multi - relational modelling : ‘ X and X ’ revisited

A relational model of language is developed which unifies traditional features of X-bar theory with lexicon based modelling. It is argued that such a model provides the appropriate basis for handling problematic cases of non-constituent coordination and gapping. A prototype implementation is discussed on the basis of six representative examples, corpus-based.

Psr B1929+10 Revisited in X-rays

We performed timing and spectral analysis for PSR B1929+10, one of the oldest (about 10 years) of the ordinary pulsars detected in X-rays, using archival ROSAT, ASCA and RXTE data. Pulsed emission was detected at a more than five sigma level for combined ROSAT PSPC and unpublished HRI data. Our pulse profile is in agreement with that obtained by Yancopoulos et al. (1994; ROSAT PSPC) but now wit...
